Until recently, my work was concerned with the architectural forms that make up our landscape--buildings, towers, and skyscrapers. They were created as forms that interacted and communicated in an indifferent landscape. These have now evolved into hooded figures, or characters that imply meaning and communication through abstract juxtapositions using the comic format. These ambiguous images with their blank speech bubbles invite the viewer to give meaning to the situation. Do abstract visual symbols communicate universally if given no obvious narrative? How much do we use our personal experience to create stories and emotions when we are given no context for the images? These are some questions I am exploring in my work now.

I use drypoint medium on card or plastic sheeting because I like the immediacy of the line and the ease of direct expression. I use them as quick sketches for sculptures, and the print technique gives them a gravity that makes my ideas more concrete. I frequently use collage or letterpress lettering as well in my work.
