Artist's Statement

Creating art is a way in which I can explore my reality on my terms. It is also a way in which I can react to what happens around me. I enjoy the physicality of carving wood, both plank grain and end grain, and its resultant printed image—a two-dimensional reflection of the three-dimensionally carved surface.

Currently I am examining animals’ barnyard/domesticated relationships and whimsical natures. Commonly I combine opposing ideologies like cuteness and innocence versus instinctual predation when looking at, for example, a domesticated cat. Utilizing polar traits, I am interested in the threats that common/domesticated animals pose to humans through domestic or foreign terrorism, food source issues, and animal viruses.
