Statement

In the works of Jouni Salonen, the base is often old photographs. Works lead viewers thought to one’s own history of life; viewer always links own experience on to work that see. But on the other hand, old photos also turn on viewer’s own imagination. One asks: What kind of world this person has been living in? What has he done?

The works of Jouni Salonen create many stories, but at the same time they tell us how the time pass. There has been many kind of worlds before our time which we can slightly open the door.  –Seppo Heiskanen

Statement of Artistic Process

My works are mainly metalgraphic where I’m mixing traditional metalgraphic print (etching, aquatint, softground) on to exposured image (fotoetching, polymeregrvure). In printing I use several printplates and interpenetrated transparent layers of colour.
